What playing 11 Mumbai Indians will be a mystery that doesn’t have one right answer. The first and foremost thing that the Mumbai Indians will have to ponder upon is the availability of Rohit Sharma. Rohit had suffered a Hamstring injury in the last match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Ham injury isn’t serious, but Rohit may be out of action for the last 1-2 weeks.
So, with Rohit not available, and MI may not risk him as well, who opens with Rickelton will be an interesting question. Well, technically, they don’t have a solid backup Indian opener, so Suryakumar Yadav will have to open the innings with Rickelton, and Tilak Varma should play at number 3.
But with a struggling middle-order, MI will have to shuffle the batting order a bit. With Rohit not there, Rutherford should be promoted to number 4, and Will Jacks, if available, should be drafted in the side at the number 6 position. This will make batting stronger for MI.
In the bowling department, MI may contemplate dropping Boult to accommodate Jacks. So, expect MI to bring in Chahar for Mayank Markande, and Ashwani for Boult. While this may not be the most ideal playing 11 combination, desperate needs call for desperate measures.
