Ever since the news about the IPL 2025 Mega Auction has been floating, the biggest question that all Delhi Capitals fans have been asking is whether Rishabh Pant is contemplating a move out of Delhi Capitals. Countless news has been floating about Pant’s move to Chennai Super Kings with MS Dhoni potentially at the flag end of his career. But it seems all these news were just rumors, and Rishabh Pant isn’t gong anywhere.

The Delhi Capitals franchise has been like a family for Rishabh Pant. Even in his darkest phase, which is the recovery phase from his accident, the DC franchise supported him with all the financial and mental support. Even Rishabh Pant reciprocates the feeling of togetherness with the DC franchise. What’s more, Pant is still their leader even after his comeback. So, it doesn’t seem that Rishabh Pant will move out of Delhi Capitals.

With Pant almost confirmed to play for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025, the next big question that naturally comes our mind is what strategy do Delhi Capitals adopt for the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. While the official news about the rules isn’t out as yet, one can safely assume that Delhi Capitals will be allowed to retain at least 4 players. So, assuming the best probability, let’s look at the best predicted retained players list for Delhi Capitals for IPL 2025. 

Delhi Capitals Likely Retained Players List – IPL 2025

If we talk about the best three players for Delhi Capitals who will not have any debate for their retention, it has got to be Captain Rishabh Pant, All-rounder Axar Patel, and spinner Kuldeep Yadav. These three have not only been match-winners for Delhi, but are also the first-choice players in the Indian team. So, without a doubt, all three should get retained, and the price to get retained should also not be an issue. 

Apart from these three, the other Dilemma that Delhi Capitals will face is the Overseas player choice that they will have to make. The team currently have four solid options to choose from, and those are Jake Fraser-McGurk, Mitchel Marsh, Tristan Stubbs, and Anrich Nortje. Ideally, DC would have liked to retain all four, but if only one was allowed, it has got to Tristan Stubbs. 

Stubbs was Delhi’s best performing Overseas player last year smashing more than 300 runs as a finisher. Playing as a finisher in the IPL is probably the toughest place to be for a batter. But if any player finds success in this position, it is a no-brainer for the team to invest in that player. The likes of Marsh and Fraser-McGurk can be looked at if more than four players are allowed to retain, and that is also a possibility.

Will Prithvi Shaw be Retained?

Finally, Delhi Capitals will have to make a tough choice of parting ways with Prithvi Shaw. Shaw has been way out of form in the last couple years. Not only that, there are big question marks over his fitness too. While there is no space in the Delhi Capitals to retain him, even if there was space, Delhi shouldn’t be retaining him. With Shaw out, Delhi should ideally look to build their team around Jake Fraser-McGurk, who will mostly be one of the openers.

So, that’s about the best four retained players list for Delhi for IPL 2025. Aside from these four solid players, Delhi can add Mitchell Marsh if 5 players are allowed to retain. Whereas they can add Jake Fraser-McGurk if six players are allowed to retain. Other than these six, Delhi Capitals can think of Anrich Nortje, Abhishek Porel, Lalit Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, and Khaleel Ahmed as other potential options.
