IPL 2025 Best Predicted Retained Overseas Players List
Jos Buttler and Andre Russell, the top choices in our best predicted retained Overseas players list for all 10 teams for IPL 2025.
In the last few years, the IPL Mini Auctions have made a tremendous buzz for the Overseas players. Some of the Overseas stats have been refraining from entering the Mega Auctions. They did find the loophole by capitalizing on the Demand and Supply gap, and as a result, have been shattering all records when it comes to retentions. Take Sam Curran, Pat Cummins, or Mitchell Starc. All have gone for surreal prices; much more than what the best Indian players got.
But things will change from IPL 2025 onwards, and BCCI has done a brilliant job of addressing this issue. The BCCI has categorically said that they won’t allow any Overseas player in the Mini Auctions if that player hasn’t registered in the Mega Auction. Similarly, if any Overseas player is selected in the Mega Auction, and backs out of the season, except for injury, that player will be banned for two years from the IPL.
These are great steps taken by the BCCI to preserve the sanctity of the tournament, and not allow any player to take advantage of the situation. With that, teams will be more confident while retaining or using RTM cards on the quality Overseas players. So, as we study the existing squad of all 10 teams, let’s look at the best predicted retained Overseas players list for each team ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
IPL 2025 Best Predicted Retained Overseas Players List for All 10 Teams
#1: Chennai Super Kings
- Matheesha Pathirana – 11 Cr
Chennai Super Kings are a team that has a lot of quality Indian players, hence from an Overseas players’ POV, they might retain only one player, and that is Matheesha Pathirana. Pathirana has been a star and first-choice bowler not just for CSK, but for his national side as well. Expect CSK to retain Pahirana for 11 Cr, and then use the RTM option on one from Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra.
#2: Delhi Capitals
- None
Delhi Capitals won’t retain any Overseas players, and will use RTM options on two from Tristan Stubbs, Jake Fraser-McGurk, and Mitchell Marsh.
#3: Gujarat Titans
- Rashid Khan – 16 Cr
Gujarat Titans have a few quality Overseas players in their side, but from a retention POV, they might retain only Rashid Khan with 16 Cr as his retention amount in all likelihood. For the RTM options, GT may go after David Miller most likely.
#4: Kolkata Knight Riders
- Andre Russell – 14 Cr
- Sunil Narine – 11 Cr
KKR have been blessed with one of the best Overseas duos to have ever graced the game, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. These two have been the MVPs of KKR for many years, and look all set to get retained for IPL 2025 as well. While Russell should get 14 Cr, Narine may get 11 Cr. Aside from these two, KKR may go after one from Mitchell Starc or Phil Salt with the RTM card, if they don’t retain six players.
#5: Lucknow Super Giants
- Nicholas Pooran – 18 Cr
In recent developments for LSG retentions for IPL 2025, it is understood that the management isn’t very interested in retaining low strike-rate player KL Rahul. Given their thought process, the team wants to retain Nicholas Pooran as their highest-ranked player for 18 Cr. But aside from Pooran, LSG may only retain Indian players, and then use RTM cards on Marcus Stoinis and Quinton de Kock.
#6: Mumbai Indians
- None
Mumbai Indians shall remain the only ones that will neither retain any Overseas players nor use RTM cards on them. All their six retained or RTM players will be Indians. However, the team may be after Tim David and Nuwan Thushara in the Auction.
#7: Punjab Kings
- None
Punjab Kings may not retain any Overseas player ahead of the IPL 2025 Auction. However, the team may use RTM cards on the likes of Sam Curran, Kagiso Rabada, and Liam Livingstone.
#8: Rajasthan Royals
- Jos Buttler – 14 Cr
Talking about RR, Jos Buttler shall remain their best Overseas player, and in all likelihood, should get retained for 14 Cr. Aside from Jos Buttler, RR may have Trent Boult as the potential RTM option in the Auction.
#9: Royal Challengers Bengaluru
- Glenn Maxwell – 14 Cr
The RCB team has a few quality overseas players, but it looks like Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis will be the frontrunners in terms of retention or RTM. Overall, RCB should retain Maxwell for 14 Cr, and then use RTM cards on two from Faf du Plessis, Cameron Green, and Will Jacks.
#10: Sunrisers Hyderabad
- Heinrich Klaasen – 18 Cr
- Pat Cummins – 18 Cr
- Travis Head – 14 Cr
SRH shall remain the team that retains the most Overseas players, 3. There’s no debate on the quality of Overseas players they possess, and not just SRH, the likes of Head and Klaasen would be on the radar for any team. So, expect SRH to retain Klaasen as the highest-ranked player for 18 Cr or more. Cummins should also get 18 Cr, and Travis Head should mostly get 14 Cr.
