IPL 2025 Ranking All 10 Teams Best Bowlers in Purple Cap Race
Noor Ahmad, the best contender in our Purple Cap ranking of top bowlers for all 10 teams for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Taking wickets is an art, and bowlers who dominate the Powerplay as well as Death Overs are the ones that always end up taking wickets in bulk in the Indian Premier League. It is important for the bowlers to be able to not only swing the ball in the Powerplay but also to be in variations in the death overs, which will help them take wickets for their team. Not all bowlers have these skills as some may be good in the Powerplay, and some may be good in the death overs.
The Indian Premier League, as a tournament, sees many solid bowlers representing the 10 franchises. We have the likes of Jasprit Bumrah for MI, Arshdeep Singh for Punjab Kings, Mohammed Shami for SRH, Mitchell Starc for Delhi Capitals, Josh Hazlewood for RCB, and many more. With so many quality bowlers playing in the tournament, the race for the Purple Cap becomes extremely interesting.
But how about we take a look at one potential candidate in each team, who looks the best to clinch the Purple Cap for his team. While there can be multiple bowlers in the team, we will only look at the best candidate, and compare them with the best contenders from the other 9 teams. So, let’s evaluate the best bowlers of all 10 teams, and find out their ranking with respect to winning the Purple Cap for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
IPL 2025 Ranking Each Team Purple Cap Best Bowlers
#10: Jofra Archer (RR)
For number 10, we should see Jofra Archer from the RR team. Jofra Is RR’s best bowler without a doubt, but is far from the best as seen in the initial few matches. While Jofra’s performance has only improved match-on-match, the competition is too intense, and that means Jofra will have to give his 200% to be able to take more wickets in the competition. Expect Jofra to take around 12-14 wickets in the group stage, which isn’t that good.
#9: Digvesh Singh (LSG)
At Number 9, we have Digvesh Singh from the LSG team. Digvesh has been a breath of fresh air for the struggling bowling lineup of LSG. Such has been Digvesh’s performance so far that he has not only overshadowed LSG’s lead spinner Ravi Bishnoi but is also their best bowler currently. Given his wicket-taking ability, expect him to take around 14-16 wickets if he plays all 14 matches. Overall, however, Digvesh should be 10-12th on the list.
#8: Hardik Pandya (MI)
At number 8, we see Hardik Pandya from the Mumbai Indians team. MI have many quality bowlers in their side, like Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, Deepak Chahar, and Hardik Pandya himself, but if there is one bowler who looks to be the contender in the MI side to get the most number of wickets, it is Hardik Pandya. The Purple cap is something that requires the bowler to play all the matches, bowl in the Powerplay and Death Overs, and Hardik has all these qualities.
#7: Mohammed Shami (SRH)
For number 7, we should see Mohammed Shami from the SRH team. Shami has been a wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League. His ability to take wickets with the new ball, and with the old ball in death overs is commendable. However, the only issue with Shami is his effectiveness, which has reduced after he made a return from the injury. However, even after that, expect Shami to take around 16-18 wickets.
#6: Varun Chakravarthy (KKR)
For number 6, we should see Varun Chakravarthy from the KKR team. Before the IPL, Varun was projected to win the Purple Cap. His wicket-taking ability in the middle overs makes him a great prospect to do that. However, things haven’t gone so well for Varun so far, and teams are not taking much risk against him. But given the quality of his bowling, expect Varun to still dominate the bowling charts, and take close to 20 wickets in the competition.
#5: Josh Hazlewood (RCB)
Number 5 belongs to Josh Hazlewood from the RCB camp. Josh has been bowling beautifully, and has dominated the batters in all three phases of the bowling – Powerplay, Middle Overs, and Death Overs. Not only his ability to surprise the batters with bouncers has been top-notch, but his ability to nail the yorkers has been excellent too. With Josh already among the wickets, expect him to be in the top 5 wicket-takers this season.
#4: Mitchell Starc (DC)
Number 4 belongs to Josh’s countrymate Mitchell Starc from the Delhi Capitals team. Starc has been breathing fire since the first match of this season. Be it Powerplay or Death overs where he generally bowls, Starc has been among the wickets this season. Given his superb form at the moment, expect Starc to finish among the top wicket-takers this season with a possibility of finishing in the top 3 also there.
#3: Mohammed Siraj (GT)
For number 3, we have Mohammed Siraj from the Gujarat Titans team, and what a stunning season this has been for Siraj so far. Right from his first match for Gujarat Titans, Siraj has been bowling in right channels, and has been able to make the move the ball both ways. He has also been able to bowl the yorkers effectively. With such bowling, expect Siraj to finish with over 20 wickets this season.
#2: Arshdeep Singh (PBKS)
At number 2, we have Arshdeep Singh from the Punjab Kings team. Arshdeep Singh is a wicket-taker, and there are no second thoughts about it. He mostly bowls in the Powerplay or in the death, and that gives him a great chance to finish among the top wicket-takers this season. Arshdeep may not have had a great start to this season, but the quality he possesses will always keep him among the wickets.
#1: Noor Ahmad (CSK)
Finally, we have Noor Ahmad from the CSK team. CSK may not have had the best of starts to this IPL, but one thing that has been a standout for them this season is Noor Ahmad’s excellence in the bowling department. With Ruturaj being able to use Noor effectively, he has delivered timely wickets for his team. With Purple cap already belonging to Noor Ahmad currently, expect him to finish at the top of the table in terms of most wickets this season.
So, that’s about the ranking of the IPL 2025 Purple Cap contender bowlers for all 10 teams for IPL 2025.
