If we observe the current squad of Sunrisers Hyderabad, the team doesn’t have a quality Indian player of the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rishabh Pant, or Virat Kohli. The best SRH have is Abhishek Sharma, and he is still quite young to be included among the players mentioned above. So, it goes without saying that SRH will retain their best-priced player from the Overseas players.

So, who will SRH as their highest-paid player? Well,  SRH have three names in front of them to retain at the highest price, and those are Pat Cummins, Heinrich Klaasen, and Travis Head. All three are quality players who bring something unique to the table. But of the three, their captain and leader, Pat Cummins seems the best bet to be retained as the highest-paid player. Cummins led the team quite well in IPL 2024, and given his all-round abilities, it makes sense to retain him as the highest-paid player.  

After Pat Cummins, the second player that Sunrisers Hyderabad will retain is Heinrich Klaasen. Klassen is one of the best hitters of the ball in world cricket currently. With amazing consistency to control the innings in the middle overs, Klaasen will be an automatic choice for retention not only in SRH but also in any other team. Klaasen alongside Cummins shall form the top 2 Overseas players for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Nitish Reddy vs Bhuvneshwar Kumar vs T Natarajan

Talking about the third player, it has to be Abhishek Sharma. Abhishek set the IPL stage on fire with his fearless batting in the powerplay. Time and again alongside Travis Head, Abhishek gave quick starts for his team. Courtesy of his heroics, he was also awarded a maiden Indian team call-up. The only debate on Abhishek will be the price at which he will be retained. He is not uncapped, so should be paid a higher price. 

For the final player, It will be unfortunate for Travis Head, who deserves retention as good as Pat Cummins or Heinrich Klaasen. But with four players, it looks highly unlikely that BCCI will allow more than 2 Overseas players from a retention perspective. So, among Indian players, Nitish Reddy, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and T Natarajan are the best options. Of the three, Nitish Reddy seems more potent looking at his capabilities, and a focus on the future.
