IPL 2025 Ranking Each Team Best Players to Win Orange Cap

Sai Sudharsan, the top contender in our Orange Cap best Indian players ranking for all 10 teams for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

It’s been more than a week since the Indian Premier League started, but we have already seen the Orange Cap race getting interesting. Ideally, we see players who look to play long at the top of the table, but IPL 2025 has so far thrown a surprise with the likes of aggressive batters like Nicholas Pooran, Travis Head, Jos Buttler, Mitchell Marsh, etc., at the top.

It is usually the top-order that ends up winning the Orange Cap, and in the 17 seasons so far, we have seen 16 occasions where the Orange Cap has been won by an Opener, and only once was it won by a non-opener – that was by Kane Williamson in IPL 2017.  This shouldn’t be a surprise as openers face the most number of balls in a match, and if the openers fail, then it is the number 3 batter that capitalizes on this.

But which players have the best chance of winning the Orange Cap in IPL 2025? Well, how about we short-list that one player from each team, and rank them basis their probability to win the Orange Cap? However, some teams have multiple Orange Cap contenders, but for the sake of this analysis, we will consider only one name. So, let’s analyze the top batters of all 10 teams, and find out the ranking of the Orange Cap contender players for IPL 2025.

IPL 2025 Ranking Each Team Orange Cap Contenders

#10: Yashasvi Jaiswal (RR)

At number 10, we should see Yashasvi Jaiswal from the RR team. The RR team has three probable Orange Cap contenders – Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, and Riyan Parag. Of the three players, Riyan Parag is in the best form. However, Jaiswal can’t be discounted. Even though he has struggled for runs in the first three matches, he will bounce back, and since he opens, he will have a better chance of ending as RR’s leading run scorer. However, on the leaderboard, he will be around 12th position.

#9: Quinton de Kock (KKR)

At number 9, we have Quinton de Kock from the KKR team, and there should be no doubt about who from the KKR team is the probable Orange Cap contender. However, de Kock isn’t the most known name if he were to score over 600+ runs. De Kock can score around 500, but there will be players who will score more than him. Overall, de Kock is a very good player, and him batting at the top makes gives him a better chance.

#8: Suryakumar Yadav (MI)

For number 8, we should see Suryakumar Yadav from the MI team. Ideally, Tilak Varma would have been a better contender for the Orange Cap. But since Tilak’s batting position isn’t fixed, SKY batting at 4 will be ideal to finish as MI’s leading run-getter. The team also has Ryan Rickelton, but finishing as MI’s top run-scorer in his first season will be slightly difficult, but not impossible. Given the form Surya is in, expect him to score around 500 runs this season.

#7: Faf du Plessis (DC)

For number 7, we will see a slightly more consistent Faf du Plessis from the Delhi Capitals team. Faf is a solid opener, and with Harry Brook not there anymore, and him being the Vice-Captain of the side, expect Faf to play all the matches, and score in excess of 500 runs this season. The fact that he has been doing this in the IPL for many years makes us believe he will do it this year as well.

#6: Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK)

Number 6 should see Ruturaj Gaikwad from the CSK team. CSK have two probable Orange Cap contenders, and those are Rachin Ravindra and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Given the form both players are in, it will be neck and neck in terms of who leads the Orange Cap board, but since Ruturaj is more composed, his probability of scoring more runs is higher. However, his potential of scoring 600+ runs is now reduced since he is batting at the number 3 position.

#5: Travis Head (SRH)

Talking about the Orange Cap leaderboard, the belligerent Travis Head will be among the top 7 run-scorers this season. Even as Head scores at a breathtaking pace, he has the consistency to be able to score more, and play longer innings. Abhishek and Kishan are his competitors for the Orange Cap, and all three players will definitely score well, but expect Head to excel both these players to be SRH’s leading run-scorer for IPL 2025.

#4: Nicholas Pooran (LSG)

Number 4 belongs to Nicholas Pooran from the LSG team. Pooran bats at 3 for his team, and in the three matches, he already owns the Orange Cap. A naturally attacking batter by nature, Pooran usually takes 7-8 balls before he goes all guns blazing. Even as Pooran is striking at 220 currently, his potential is much more than that. While Pooran has 189 runs from 3 matches, expect him to get around 600 runs if he continues his form in the remainder of the tournament.

#3: Shreyas Iyer (PBKS)

At number 3, we should see Shreyas Iyer from the Punjab Kings team. Shreyas is looking in ominous touch currently, and seeing how relaxed he looks while batting, expect a bumper season from Shreyas. Also, the fact that Shreyas bats at 3 this time, will make it easier for him to score in excess of 600 runs this season – the first for him in Indian Premier League

#2: Virat Kohli (RCB)

Number 2 should see Virat Kohli from RCB, and he is never far behind when it comes to scoring runs in bulk for his team, RCB. He is the Orange Cap winner of last year, and given the form he is in currently, expect another gold season for Virat Kohli. While 600 runs won’t be out of reach for Virat, him winning the Orange Cap this time might be slightly difficult given the form Sai Sudharsan is in.

#1: Sai Sudharsan (GT)

At number 1, we have Sai Sudharsan, and he has already started the IPL 2025 season with a bang. He is currently second on the list of leading run-scorers, and given the form he is in, a 700+ runs season can’t be discounted. Sai is a composed player, and has the right technique to play longer innings. He doesn’t slog like Abhishek or Yashasvi, and that gives him a great advantage to play long innings. Surprisingly, even with such technique, he strikes at 160, which is excellent.

So, that’s about the ranking of the IPL 2025 Orange Cap contender players for all 10 teams for IPL 2025.
