Indian Premier League’s joint-most successful franchise, Mumbai Indians started the IPL 2025 campaign with a bang by retaining all five Indian players. The team retained some of the best Indian talents in the form of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma. While Rohit Sharma has retired from T20Is, the other four are first-choice players for India in T20Is. 

With five strong Indian players retained, MI focused on adding quality Overseas players in the side for IPL 2025. MI had released all their existing Overseas players, and they added all fresh Overseas players from the Auction. As a first-choice top 4 Overseas players, MI added the likes of Trent Boult, Mitchell Santner, Will Jacks, and Allah Ghazanfar. For backup overseas players, MI added Lizaad Williams, Reece Topley, Bevon Jacobs, and Ryan Rickelton. 

Overall, Mumbai Indians added 18 more players aside from 5 retained players in the IPL 2025. With 23 players in the side, Mumbai Indians have 4 pure batters, 3 wicket-keepers, 6 all-rounders, and 10 pure bowlers in the side. Existing Players MI Added

Mumbai Indians had retained 5 class Indian players ahead of the Auction as shown above. But aside from these five players, the team added very few existing players in the side. Among the names that MI added from the existing squad include only Arjun Tendulkar and Naman Dhir. The strategy looked surprising for Mumbai Indians – the team that has always believed in having a core of 10-15 players every season. 

New Players that MI Added

Coming to new players that Mumbai Indians added, we have 16 names in front of us. While there are 8 new Overseas players as shown above, the team added 8 new Indian players to the side. Among quality names, MI added Robin Minz, Deepak Chahar, Karn Sharma, and Rah Bawa. Whereas among important backups, MI added the likes of Shrijitj Krishnan, Ashwani Kumar, Satyanayarana Raju, and Vignesh Puthur.
