IPL 2026 Unique Best Retained Players XI Ahead of Mini Auction

From Yashasvi Jaiswal to Jasprit Bumrah, we pick one name per team to form the unique retained players XI ahead of the IPL 2026 Mini Auction.

Instead of the usual predictions, probabilities, and routine analysis, we aim to bring something fresh and exciting. While exploring the expected retentions of each IPL team, a unique idea struck us. What if we combine some of the best-performing players across franchises, and create a special Best XI ahead of the IPL 2026 Mini Auction? This approach not only adds a new perspective but also gives fans a thrilling discussion point beyond the standard retention talks.

A Playing XI usually represents the best 11 players of a season, often termed the Team of the Tournament. This XI highlights players who delivered exceptional performances in that specific edition. However, when we extend the evaluation to the last 2-3 years, we get something even more exciting: the Most Dangerous Playing XI. This elite line-up features only the most consistent and impactful performers across seasons. Since it focuses purely on quality, there’s a strong chance that not every IPL team will be represented in this XI.

But how about taking a different route this time? Instead of simply picking the best performers, let’s analyse the top retained players from every team, and build a Unique Retained Players XI ahead of the IPL 2026 Mini Auction. This approach ensures representation from all 10 franchises, with one additional star to complete the XI. The idea is to select players across different roles – openers, middle-order anchors, all-rounders, and bowlers – to form a well-balanced team. This not only makes the XI more engaging but also gives fans a fresh perspective on how each franchise’s key retention could shape the upcoming season.

Players That Select Themselves by Default

When building a Unique Playing XI for IPL 2026, some players simply walk into the team as automatic choices because of their unmatched consistency and dominance. For instance, Suryakumar Yadav is widely regarded as the best T20 batter in the world, excelling not only in the Indian Premier League but also on the international stage. Similarly, Nicholas Pooran has established himself as a reliable middle-order powerhouse, while Heinrich Klaasen continues to set the benchmark as a destructive finisher. On the bowling front, Jasprit Bumrah remains the undisputed best pacer in T20 cricket, and Varun Chakravarthy stands tall as a top-performing spinner. These players are not just performers; they are benchmarks in their respective roles.

When it comes to selecting the top-order batters for our Unique Retained Players XI, a few names instantly stand out because of their consistency in the last few IPL seasons. Among the best performers, we have Virat Kohli from Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Yashasvi Jaiswal from Rajasthan Royals (RR), Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan from Gujarat Titans (GT), and Jos Buttler also from GT. From Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head have been excellent, but since SRH is already represented in our XI, we can keep them aside for now.

Shubman Gill vs Sai Sudharsan – Who gets the nod?

From the Gujarat Titans camp, three strong contenders emerge for the top order – Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, and Jos Buttler. However, given the restriction of picking only one player per team, we face a tough choice. All three have been consistent match-winners, but Shubman Gill’s meteoric rise in the IPL, and as an all-format star make him the standout pick. Pairing Gill with the aggressive Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top creates a perfect left-hand, right-hand opening combination. To add further solidity, Virat Kohli slots in naturally at number three, forming a rock-solid top order for our Unique Retained Players XI ahead of IPL 2026.

With eight players already locked in, we are left with three crucial spots to complete our Unique Retained Players XI for IPL 2026. These positions demand one quality all-rounder, and two additional bowling options to balance the squad. To finalise these roles, we turn our attention to the remaining franchises – Delhi Capitals (DC), Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Luckily, each of these teams boasts standout retained players who perfectly fit the requirements. Their inclusion not only strengthens the XI but also ensures representation from all 10 franchises, making this lineup both unique and power-packed.

Axar Patel vs Ravindra Jadeja – A difficult Choice

For the all-rounder’s role in our Unique Players XI for IPL 2026, the contest narrows down to Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals) and Ravindra Jadeja (Chennai Super Kings). Both have been proven match-winners in the IPL, but when we weigh their performances from the last few seasons, Axar Patel edges slightly ahead with his consistent batting depth, and economical left-arm spin.

This decision also impacts the team balance:

  • If we pick Axar, CSK’s Noor Ahmad fits in as a quality spin option.
  • If we pick Jadeja, DC’s Kuldeep Yadav takes that role.

After careful consideration, the Axar Patel + Noor Ahmad combination looks stronger overall, as it provides an in-form all-rounder and a young, reliable spinner to boost the Unique Players XI for IPL 2026.

For the final pace option, the spotlight turns to the Punjab Kings (PBKS). Thankfully, PBKS have one of the most consistent left-arm pacers in the IPL, Arshdeep Singh. His ability to deliver both with the new ball, and in the death overs makes him an automatic choice. With Arshdeep Singh joining the XI, we now have a well-balanced playing XI featuring at least one star player from each of the 10 IPL teams. This not only ensures variety across roles: openers, middle-order batters, all-rounders, pacers, and spinners, but also makes this side a unique and exciting combination ahead of the IPL 2026 Mini Auction.
