Delhi Capitals, the team with 0 IPL trophies will be making a fresh start once again with IPL 2025. The IPL 2025 Mega Auction gave the team a level-playing field, and Delhi Capitals got another good opportunity to build a strong. But did they succeed in building a solid squad for IPL 2025? Well, it’s an interesting case, but from the outset, Delhi Capitals does look strong on paper.

For starters, Delhi Capitals will have a new Captain this year with Delhi Capitals parting ways with Rishabh Pant. Pant was not retained by Delhi Capitals last year, but Delhi did try hard to buy Rishabh Pant in the Auction. But with Pant not there, Delhi Capitals will be looking at either Axar Patel or KL Rahul as the new Captain of the side.

Both Axar Patel and KL Rahul are solid options for the Captaincy, and it will be interesting to see whom does Delhi Capitals select. While KL Rahul has been leading an IPL side since 2018, Axar Patel is already in the leadership group of the Indian with India projecting him as the Vice Captain. So, as we analyze these things, let’s also look at the best playing 11 and the official squad list for Delhi Capitals for IPL 2025.

From the squad standpoint, Delhi Capitals seems to have a potent squad with many talented players in the side. From an Overseas players’ standpoint, Delhi Capitals have Tristan Stubbs, Mitchell Starc, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Faf du Plessis, and Harry Brook among star players. Whereas from the Indian players’ standpoint, Delhi Capitals have Axar Patel, KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav, Natarajan, Mukesh Kumar, and. Mohit Sharma among star players.

Coming to playing 11, Delhi’s biggest challenge will be selecting their best set of Overseas players. The team currently has solid options to explore in the form of Mitchell Starc, Tristan Stubbs, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Harry Brook, and Faf du Plessis. To select four from these, the main question will be to select one from Faf du Plessis and Harry Brook.

Now, the answer to this question depends on what exactly Delhi is looking for. Both Brook and Faf are quality players, but Delhi Capitals need a middle-order batter more than an opener. So, considering KL Rahul and Jake Fraser-McGurk opens, and Abhishek Porel at 3, Harry Brook at 4 seems an ideal combination. Unfortunately, Faf doesn’t find a place here. Because if Faf plays, he will have to play at 3, and Porel could be pushed to number 4, which won’t be good.

Delhi Capitals have a solid bowling attack with Mitchell Starc leading the pace attack, and Kuldeep Yadav leading the spin attack. Supporting these two shall be Axar Patel, Mukesh Kumar, T Natarajan, and mostly Mohit Sharma. It’s a brilliant bowling attack with bowlers from all phases of the attack. The team will mostly use Mohit Sharma as the impact player, and can also play Sameer Rizvi if an extra batter is needed.

  8. Mitchell Starc
  9. Kuldeep Yadav
  10. Mukesh Kumar
  11. T Natarajan
  12. Mohit Sharma / Sameer Rizvi (i)

So, that’s about the best possible playing 11 for Delhi Capitals for IPL 2025. Overall, Delhi have good names in the playing 11, but there seems to be a lot of inexperience in the side. The likes of Jake Fraser-McGurk, Abhishek Porel, Harry Brook, Astutosh Sharma, and Sameer Rizvi are talented names, but carry inexperience with them. However, bowling is their strength, and they have solid experience in this space.
