IPL 2025 Flop Players XI of the Season – Rishabh Pant to Lead
Rishabh Pant to Captain the team in our exclusive report on the flop players XI of the season for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
The Indian Premier League is a tournament where we not only see superstars being made in the form of young and emerging talents, or already established players of the game, but also villains being made from the established cricketers who just don’t live up to the expectations. When we see the rise of superstars, we also see villains being formed, and the IPL 2025 has been no different so far.
We are almost entering the business phase of the tournament, but the performance of a few players has been ordinary. While a few players are getting huge chunk of money as compensation, they are not even performing 10% of what is expected from them. Similarly, there are a few International stars, who usually do really well for their national side, but bat or bowl in the IPL as if they have never played cricket their entire life.
It is not a good sight to see so many quality players struggling to make an impact in the tournament. But when it is not your time, it is not your time irrespective of the quality you possess. Nevertheless, in this article, we take a look at 11 such players, who have flopped miserably this season in the batting and bowling department. So, we analyze the performance of all players, and look at the flop playing XI for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
IPL 2025 Mid Season Flop Players XI Revealed
Starting with the openers, look no other than the golden duo of Rahul Tripathi and Jake Fraser-McGurk. Without a doubt, these two have been the worst openers of IPL 2025 so far with absolute 0 contribution in the team. While Tripathi scored 55 runs from 5 innings, Fraser-McGurk also scored 55 innings, but from 6 innings. Their average is abysmal at 11 and 9.17 respectively, and strike rate is horrible at 97 and 106 respectively. With not a single 50 this season, these two are already out of contention in the team.
Coming to the middle-order, we have the Captain and leader of this Rishabh Pant at 3, the legendary Overseas duo of Glenn Maxwell and Liam Livingstone at 4 and 5 respectively. All three batters have struggled horribly so far in the competition. With just 1 fifty so far, the 27 Cr Rishabh Pant has scored just 106 runs from 8 innings with an average of 13.25 and a strike rate of 96.4. This is undoubtedly the worst performing year for Pant, but hopefully, he plays with more freedom in the upcoming matches.
Failed All-rounders
Talking about Liam Livingstone and Glenn Maxwell, both are similar kind of batting all-rounders, and have also performed similarly. While Maxwell has scored 41 runs from 5 innings, Liam isn’t far behind with 87 runs to his name from 6 innings. Even in the bowling department, Maxwell has just 4 wickets to his name, and Livingstone has 2 wickets. Courtesy of their horrible performance, both are already dropped from the squad.
Talking about the other two players in the lower-order, we have Lord Rahul Tewatia and Mitchell Santner. Year-on-year Rahul Tewatia goes under the scanner for contributing nothing in either of the departments. This year is no different with just 41 runs to his name from 6 innings. While his strike rate is good at 200, it doesn’t mean he can’t contribute more. Similarly, Santner has been poor in the bowling department with just 4 wickets from 8 games at a poor average of 54. Even as a batter, Santner just has 31 runs, thus showcasing failure in both departments.
Bowling Lineup
Coming to the worst bowlers of the season, we have many names like Sandeep Sharma, Rashid Khan, Suyash Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohit Sharma, Trent Boult, and Mohammed Shami. But if we had to select four worst bowlers from these, it has to be Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohit Sharma, Trent Boult, and Mohammed Shami. Given the big names involved, all four bowlers have been pretty bad this season with neither wickets nor economy rate under control.
Ravichandran Ashwin has taken just 5 wickets from 7 games, and has an economy rate of 9.3, and an average of 45. Mohammed Shami also has taken just 5 wickets from 7 games at an economy rate of 11, and an average of 52. Boult has been bad too with just 6 wickets from 8 games at an economy rate of 9.4, and an average of 44. Finally, Mohit has been the worst of all with just 2 wickets from 7 games at an average of 105, and a bad economy rate of 10.
